Solo Piano

Masterclass

21st - 22nd June 2024

For “Intermediate/Advance” & “Young Artist & Professional” category pianist

Masterclasses will be conducted in conjunction with the competition. Since the competition’s aim is to increase the level of piano performance and education, it is fitting to have Masterclasses to support this endeavour. It is also an occasion for competitors to gain a deeper and further insights into their competition pieces. It will be conducted by one or more of our panel of adjudicators.

However, the masterclasses are also opened to non-competitors who are interested in increasing their level of playing.

The process of learning also includes observation. Observational learning involves many aspects and processes like attention, retention, motivation, production, reinforcement, reflection etc. One can apply what one learns from observation in one’s own piano playing. Most of the time, things become clearer and more evident when it is learnt from a third-party perspective. Learning through observation also helps fastrack one’s learning process as it serves as a supplement to one’s individual lessons. Shaping new ideas and approach are also another benefit to observational learning whether you are a student or a teacher.

In some higher learning institutes and conservatories, observation of daily lessons is very much encouraged and a normal everyday occurrence. The French term used is “Assister” and it is usually cited when one wishes to observe a class at one’s own discretion. Prior permission is not necessary if you are a student of the same school. It is this same culture of education that we hope to cultivate here.

We encourage pianists [both teachers and students alike – or pianist in general] to participate the masterclass both as pianist and observer.
