General Rules & Regulations

i.  The VIVACE International Piano Competition, hosted by the Association de la Pratique Artistique Sino-Française (A.P.A.), consists of two stages: Preliminary Round and Final Round (in France). In addition, during the finals a wealth of events including award concerts, master classes, piano concerts, etc. will be available. It will create a grand platform for Malaysian and foreign piano culture exchanges and learning with renowned French, Chinese and foreign piano experts and professors present during the competition; it will also provide excellent finalists opportunities for further studies in famous centres of higher musical studies including École Normale Music, Paris and the French National Conservatory of Music.

ii.  Competition Purpose: Authoritative, Professional, and International; Through the competition, these are amongst the benefits:

  1. Active participation. It is more important to participate than to win. Participants will be encouraged to make better preparations and therefore inculcate their passion and increase their level in piano performance.
  2. Exposure and experience in regular competitions. It is an opportunity for participant’s self-expression and self-development.
  3. Professional Professional comments from experts and professors can point the way out for one’s piano learning.
  4. Appreciation of others. They can learn from other players through appreciating their performance, and grow into a generous and considerate person.
  5. Consolation prizes. Scholarships will be awarded by honorary awards and certificates. (Resume for further studies and personal resumes)

iii.  Winners of the 1st and 2nd prize in the Preliminary shall be eligible for the French finals. In case of any quittance, eligibility will be offered to the next-ranking player.

iv.  The age of the participant shall be consistent with his/her ID or passport (Participants will be divided into the corresponding age group on the day of submitting application). Otherwise, the Organising Committee is entitled to disqualify the player. There is no limitation of nationality.

v.   All repertoires must be performed from memory (Special Prize for French works can be played at sight)

vi.  Contestants shall guarantee that performance shall not exceed the specified time. The judges may stop the performance of either piece for time reasons. Should this occur, it will in no way be detrimental to the scoring.

vii.  Contestants shall arrive at the designated competition venue at the specified time. Otherwise, he/she shall be deemed as waiver;

vii.  The registration fee is non-refundable and cannot be transferred to others. The applicants whose personal information filled in is inconsistent will be disqualified.

ix.  The right of contestants’ audio-visual publicity and the right of participation in performances, concerts and other activities related to the competition is owned by the Organising Committee, and contestants shall not be paid extra.

x.  The right of interpretation of rules and regulations in the Malaysian division is reserved by the Sino-French Art Practice Association.

xi. Day passes for audiences of the Malaysian regional competition will be sold at the entrances of the competition venue

Notes

  • All repertoires must be performed from memory. Otherwise, 20% of the total scores will be deducted.
  • The notes shall not be played repeatedly except D. C. and D. S.
  • The judges may stop the performance of either piece for time reasons. Should this occur, it will in no way be detrimental to the scoring.
  • The judges have the final discretion on the result of the competition.
  • Music college students aged at 10 or above can only apply for the Excellence Category and non-music college students can have a free choice.

Grading Standards

First Prize: above 90 points

Second Prize: above 80 points

Third Prize: above 70 points

Excellence Award: Certificate

Potential Award: Certificate

Scholarship Award: Certificate

Note: The Organising Committee is entitled to merge the awards if participants of each group are less than 10.

Notice of Master Class in the Finals

  1. Finalists shall cooperate with the organiser’s reasonable arrangement of class sequence and time.
  2. Relevant arrangement for Master Class and piano room: The location and time will be released on the subscription account;

Notice of Concerts in the Finals:

  1. The master concert will be hosted by the sponsor during the Paris Finals.
  2. The award ceremony and concerts of the top three players of each group in the finals will be held at the competition venue.
  3. After the competition, a three-day cultural group tour to Paris and Normandy will be available, served with four-star accommodation. The last day may be a Paris castle concert and cocktail party (if with more than 50 participants).

Registration Notes:

  1. The finalists shall complete the officially designated application, make the payment and apply for a visa to France at the appointed time.
  2. All contestants and parents traveling to France shall abide by local laws and regulations as well as the rules stipulated by the relevant organiser.
